The book describes and illustrates approximately 136 taxa and forms of venomous snakes belonging to the families Atractaspididae, Elapidae and Viperidae, covering the entire African continent (excluding the Egyptian Sinai peninsula). In addition to the many species that are illustrated in colour for the first time, this volume also contains photographs of a variety of previously undescribed forms. The pictograms accompanying each photo provide information on the terrarium requirements, natural habitat and dietary preferences of each species as a contribution towards successful captive husbandry and reproduction.
